The receding sea water in Lebanon sparked a state of panic among the people, in an incident similar to the Egyptian Sinai, as the pioneers of social networking sites transmitted, on Sunday, pictures and video clips documenting the “decline of sea water” in the Adloun region, with Cracks appear in the rocks of a beach, prompting experts to comment.

The National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon issued an explanatory statement on the phenomenon of receding waters of the Mediterranean Sea along the Lebanese coastline.

The National Council for Scientific Research said in a statement: “Many media outlets and social media are circulating stories and observations about the decline of sea water and its low level along the Lebanese coastline.”
And he continued: “Also, international media had previously talked about the decline of sea water in many countries of the Mediterranean basin, and in view of this, the National Center for Marine Sciences affiliated with the National Council for Scientific Research reports that the decline of sea water is scientifically linked to the movement of the tides, which may be stronger.” In some years, knowing that the weather is clear and there are no storms or waves makes the presence of the islands more noticeable.”
The statement added: “The National Center of Geophysics of the National Council for Scientific Research reports that there is no truth to what is being circulated about the sea’s retreat due to the inevitability of the arrival of tsunamis, as no earthquake was recorded in the Mediterranean that could cause such waves.”
Cracks in the beach rocks
Video clips and pictures showing “the receding of sea water” in the Lebanese region of Adloun, and the emergence of cracks in the rocks of one of the beaches, caused a sensation in the country.
The people of the region confirmed that the scenes they observed were strange, expecting that what appeared recently in the Adloun Sea might be caused by the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.
While other activists saw that the earthquake and tremors had nothing to do with what the southern coast witnessed, stressing that the scene is very normal, while the cracks that were photographed may be old and have nothing to do with the tremors that occurred.
In this context, an expert in seismology explained that the recent tremors or earthquake have nothing to do with the decline in sea water level in that region or in any other region.
Uproar and fear of earthquakes
Also, the residents of the city of Arish in the Sinai governorate confirmed that, since Saturday, they were surprised by a noticeable decline in the Mediterranean coast off the shore of the city of Arish, and a number of other beaches in the Al-Rawaq area in the city of Bir al-Abd in North Sinai.
The residents added that the decline of the beach ranged between 10 and 15 meters, and this is a phenomenon that occurs for the first time without specifying the reasons for its decline.
However, the head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, Jad Al-Qadi, said that what was circulated about the receding waters on the shores of Sinai is incorrect.
