A veritable national championship for esf instructors, the Instructors’ Challenge allows all “Red Sweaters” to end their season and compete in different disciplines.
Since the beginning of the week, more than 2,000 ESF instructors have gathered in Avoriaz where they compete in their Challenge.
On the program for this 71st edition: 40 events, 8 disciplines highlighted, encounters… But also and above all competitive spirit, good humor, pleasure and fraternity.
The national meeting of the “Red Sweaters” is the big closing sporting event of the season and highlights all the disciplines taught in the esf. It offers a spectacle, especially when the best instructors in France compete in all disciplines (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, telemark, ski X, snowboard X, freestyle in skiing and snowboarding and ski touring) with the line of sight the grand finale on the last day.
The big winner of the 2022 final, Sacha Fivel (24-year-old Savoyard – esf La Norma) is putting his title back on the line. This event also brings together the entire ski community: members of the French teams, coaches, equipment manufacturers , mountain personalities, distinguished guests…
Located at an altitude of 1800m, Avoriaz is the only 100% pedestrian and skiable resort in Europe, with organic and mimetic architecture. It is the promise of a stay in the mountains in a place like no other. The pleasure of sliding is also in the spotlight in all its forms. Avoriaz is one of the cradles of freestyle in France with a terrain conducive to back country freestyle and, from the beginning, the resort has always been a welcoming place for new snow sports.
The French Ski School was founded in 1945 and has become a key player in the snowy mountain environment. Present in 5 French massifs, the 220 esf now have no less than 17,000 instructors who teach and pass on their technical and environmental know-how. Precursors and committed, the “red sweaters” are constantly adapting to societal changes while keeping the soul of esf which makes it its strength and its reputation.
