The Wings missed the playoffs by a wide margin for the sixth straight year. In office for seven years, Blashill only led his troops to the spring ball in his first campaign at the helm of the team, in 2015-2016. In the regular season, the team is 204-261-72 for its entire reign.

The Michigan native was part of the organization for a decade, first being hired as an assistant coach, before being the pilot for three seasons of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Wings’ AHL farm club.

One of Blashill’s assistants behind the bench, Doug Houda, and goalkeeping coach Jeff Salajko will also be released by the club. They both took office in 2016-2017.
