An American man spent US$13 (approximately NT$406) on dinner, and he tipped the waiter US$3,000 (approximately NT$93,000) in a domineering manner. However, he later regretted it and hoped that the restaurant would refund the money, and the restaurant also responded. The man filed a complaint.

According to the “Daily Mail” report, Eric Smith, a man from Pennsylvania in the United States, went to a cafe to dine last year. He paid 13 US dollars (approximately NT$406), but he actually gave the waitress Lambert Mariana Lambert’s tip of US$3,000 (approximately NT$93,000) surprised her and even cried with joy.

Smith said he was influenced by the Tips for Jesus movement to give the money. It is understood that Lambert originally thought it was fake until he discovered that Smith’s credit card payment was successful. Lambert noted that she couldn’t believe it, and that the huge tip touched her heart.

However, Smith later regretted it and wrote to the cafe, hoping to refund his tip. However, the payment had already been completed and the cafe sued Smith because the money had already been given to Lambert. Cafe manager Zachary Jacobson said they thought Smith was trying to do a good thing, but now the restaurant can’t get anything.

According to “Business Insider”, starting in 2013, some people began to leave tips of more than US$1,000 (approximately NT$31,000), up to US$5,000 (approximately NT$156,000). This mysterious person posted on IG, whose name is “Jesus’ tip”, and former PayPal Vice President Jack Selby was suspected of being the mysterious man. He also admitted his identity in 2017. And many people began to follow suit and tip generously, forming a trend, and Smith was one of them.
