At the Cabinet meeting, a reserve budget of 36 billion won required to move the presidential office from the Blue House to Yongsan was decided.

However, it seems physically impossible to move all of the Oval Offices until May 10, when the president’s term begins.

The government has decided to spend 36 billion won in reserve expenses for the relocation of the presidential office.

It has been one day since the Blue House ordered ‘dispose of the reserve funds as soon as possible’.

Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom said, “This is a level of cooperation in the smooth transition of the government without a security gap,” said Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom at an extraordinary cabinet meeting this morning.

Prime Minister Kim also explained, “The issue of relocating the presidential office is up to the next government to decide, regardless of pros and cons.”

This reserve includes the cost to first build facilities essential for security, such as the crisis management center and the general security situation room.

Prime Minister Kim repeatedly emphasized, “The move to the presidential office, which is currently being promoted by the transition committee, is an issue that needs to be carefully considered and promoted because it is directly related to the key control towers of security such as the Blue House, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

The transition committee said that as the preliminary budget was passed today, practical discussions will begin in earnest, but it is impossible to move the office just in time for the start of the tenure on May 10.

Accordingly, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol plans to use the Tongui-dong office currently used by the transition committee as a temporary office after taking office.
