The constrained expenses of the French follow inflation and therefore increase. They have climbed by 100 euros over the past six months, or 9% more, according to the 5th edition of the Constrained Expenses Index, published this Saturday by the cost comparator lesfurets.com. According to this study, these expenses reach 1,195 euros per month, i.e. on average 38% of the monthly budget.

According to the definition of INSEE, constrained expenses are all the bills that the French have to pay, because they are linked to a subscription or a contract.

All expense items are up

Energy costs are on the rise: thus electricity which goes from 97 to 103 eurosgas from 97 to 110 euros, fuel from 123 to 132 euros.

The different insurance contracts are also affected by inflation: car insurance thus goes from 86 euros to 91 euros per month, health insurance from 98 euros to 104 euros per month and home insurance from 61 euros to 70 euros.

The gap between the richest and the poorest is widening

These fee increases widen the gap between the richest and the poorest. At the house of the most modestconstrained expenses represent 86% of average net monthly income.

THE couples with two children They too are seeing their constrained expenses increase sharply this semester, from 1,595 euros per month to 1,728 euros per month, or 44% of their monthly budget. In total, nearly one in two French people (48%) can’t save money.

Regional disparities

L’Ile-de-France, where constrained expenses are the highest, maintains its pole position, mainly due to expenses related to housing (847 euros against 712 euros for all French people), and public transport (75 euros against 58 for the rest the French). Less concerned by the use of the car, the Ile-de-France residents see their expenses related to transport below the national average (255 euros against 263 euros).

The Normandie made its appearance in the ranking, in particular because of fuel costs (163 euros monthly against 132 euros for all French people) and electricity and water costs (respectively 117 euros and 80 euros per month).

Finally, the Centre-Loire Valley stands out less by specific items, but rather by a trend slightly above the national average for most expenditure items: 717 euros for rent or mortgage (against 680 euros for the whole), 116 euros electricity (against 103 euros), 143 euros for fuel (against 132 euros).
