The risk of getting meningitis is increased by smoking, nasal injuries, respiratory viral infections, a removed spleen, and congenital protein deficiency. In addition, those who are in close teams are at risk. This opinion was expressed by the famous Russian TV doctor Alexander Myasnikov.
According to the doctor, outbreaks are frequent in college students and in military barracks.
“Usually this is what happens – carriers of meningococci gather together, but each has its own varieties. And the unwanted exchange begins! Being in close groups, a family with carriers dramatically increases the chance of infection. Transmission occurs by airborne droplets, with close contact – for example, kisses, ”

Bacterial meningitis kills 135,000 people a year, he says, and 1.2 million fall ill worldwide each year.
