A week before the release of Christopher Nolan’s new film Oppenheimer, a five-minute trailer for the film was released. The main role – American physicist and head of the famous Manhattan Project Robert Oppenheimer – was played by Cillian Murphy.

The film tells the story of the American nuclear weapons program, codenamed “Project Manhattan”. It was secretly held in the Tennessee desert during World War II with the participation of scientists from the USA, Great Britain, Germany and Canada. As a result of the Manhattan Project, Robert Oppenheimer and his colleagues created three atomic bombs. One exploded during the first nuclear test in New Mexico. The other two – “Kid” and “Fat Man” – were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Oppenheimer himself recalled that during the explosion of the first bomb, he thought to himself: “I am death, the destroyer of worlds.”
In addition to Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer stars Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Josh Hartnett, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh and Gary Oldman. Christopher Nolan not only directed, but also wrote and produced the film. Cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema also worked on Nolan’s other projects – Interstellar, Tenet and Dunkirk. The music for “Oppenheimer” was written by Ludwig Goransson, who also collaborated with the director on numerous occasions.
Oppenheimer opens in theaters around the world on July 20th. The film will not be officially shown in Russia.
