Drug-related violence in Antwerp is at the heart of the news in the north of the country. During a VTM newscast, a scene related to this issue was captured and broadcast live.
While journalist Ken Van Beversluys was making a duplex from Place Reine Astrid, it seems that drug trafficking took place between a small group of young people in the background.
“The drug mafia reigns supreme in the streets (…) Deploy the army,” wrote Filip Dewinter (Vlaams Belang) on Twitter.
The Antwerp police temper and indicate that they are carrying out an investigation with HLN: “Our services working tirelessly on the problem immediately spotted the strange situation that can be seen in the images. We cannot say for sure what happened, but we intend to investigate. We are well aware of the problems in these neighborhoods.”
