Korean Air was fined 120 billion won by Russian customs authorities. It’s because the seal wasn’t stamped properly. Korean Air’s view is that the sanctions are excessive, and they are dissatisfied with the sanctions and are in the process of filing an administrative lawsuit.

According to the aviation industry on the 21st, flight KE529, a cargo plane of Korean Air, departing from Incheon on February 22, last year, going through Moscow, Russia to Frankfurt, Germany departed from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow with permission for takeoff from the airport control authorities.

However, Korean Air received a notification from Sheremetyevo Airport customs that some of the procedures were missing. It means that the customs seal, which must be obtained prior to departure, has been omitted.

Sheremetyevo Airport Customs imposed a fine of 8 billion rubles (about 120 billion won) on Korean Air on February 24 of this year, for violations of the Russian administrative law.

A Korean Air spokesperson said, “In accordance with Russian law, we submitted all documents and data, and we cleared cargo normally and received prior approval in electronic form from customs.”

All the norms and procedures except for the customs seal and seal were received normally, and there was no intention of illegality at all. Korean Air has explained this to the customs authorities of Sheremetyevo Airport several times. Relevant ministries such as the Korea Customs Service, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also cooperated.

Subsequently, Korean Air raised an objection to the Customs Administration of the Russian Federation, and the Moscow Air, Maritime Transportation Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing customs measures ex officio.

A Korean Air spokesperson said, “Once this procedure is completed, the Federal Customs Service will review it.

Some analysts say that Russia’s excessive measures are related to the invasion of Ukraine. The fine was imposed on February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
