The three vice foreign ministers shared an evaluation of trends in North Korea’s recent launch of ballistic missiles in violation of the UN Security Council resolution.

They urged North Korea to go down the path of dialogue and diplomacy, and agreed to continue to strengthen trilateral cooperation to stop North Korea’s escalating tensions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

As a result of analyzing the ballistic missiles recently launched by North Korea, South Korea and the US authorities determined that the maximum-range test launch of the new ICBM was imminent.

It seems that the vice ministers of the three countries considered it urgent to prevent escalation of tension and discussed the direction of the response, as this could soon return the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an extreme confrontation with the abolition of the moratorium on the nuclear test and ICBM test launch threatened by North Korea. .

The deputy foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan also discussed Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine.

The three vice ministers condemned the Russian invasion and urged an immediate halt to it, and emphasized the importance of a coordinated international response, including sanctions against Russia.

They also agreed to continue to communicate and cooperate on the impact of the Ukraine crisis on the global economy, including energy supply and demand, and countermeasures.

“The three vice foreign ministers reaffirmed the importance of South Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation amid the rapidly changing international situation and decided to continue close cooperation in the future,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
