The spread of influenza is slowing in Quebec

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

A few days before the holidays, when large families will be crowding into kitchens and living rooms, this is certainly good news for health authorities.

Also to read:

According to data from the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ) for the week ending December 17, there were 2,837 new infections with influenza viruses.

This is a marked drop from 3,175 new cases the previous week and 3,332 cases in the week ending December 3.

Regarding the rate of positive results, we went from 25.2% to 21.72%. There once more, the slowdown is noticeable, especially since the rate was still 27% two weeks ago.

The vast majority of cases of infection are linked to type A influenza, while there are only 20 cases of influenza B.
