The strike movement at TotalEnergies, which broke out spontaneously last weekend in the port of Antwerp, will continue until at least tomorrow/Wednesday, the company said on Tuesday.

Total has several factories around Antwerp. A new two-year collective labor agreement was recently negotiated at the refinery. Workers in the petrochemical branch, located a little further away, were presented with similar conditions during negotiations concerning them. “And that’s how they were presented,” said Levi Sollie of the ABVV on Monday. “But the bonuses for workers in the chemicals sector are lower than those in the refinery.”

“When it became clear that conditions were not equal, the workers began spontaneous action. Total then requisitioned some workers with the help of the police and through the provincial governor,” he said. -he continued.

In the meantime, a social mediator has been appointed. A conciliation meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.

Furthermore, discontent also spread to other sectors in the port of Antwerp this week. Thus, on Monday, the crane operators walked off the job at platforms 1742 (MPET) and 869 (Europa Terminal). The terminal operator, PSA, told the port magazine Flows that working conditions were at the origin of the protest movement.
