Colorful, tasty and bursting with antioxidants, berries are back on the shelves — to everyone’s delight! Here are four to get your teeth into:

1. Blueberry

Tangy and a wonderful accompaniment to desserts, savory dishes and meats, the blueberry, especially when it is wild, is one of the champions for preventing heart disease and cancer because of the different flavonoids it contains. To treat your taste buds, be sure to choose fruits that are not shriveled.

2. Strawberry

This small fruit contains a host of minerals, including potassium, which contributes in particular to the synthesis of proteins and the transmission of nerve impulses. And despite its famous sweet taste, the bright and juicy strawberry is low in calories, so you can enjoy it guilt-free!

3. Raspberry

Sometimes light red, sometimes dark pink — or another color, depending on the variety — raspberries are always delicious! Rich in vitamin C and fiber, it promotes, among other things, the production of collagen and the proper functioning of the intestines. His only flaw? It does not keep very long: it is therefore better to consume it quickly after picking.

4. Gooseberry

Less abundant in Quebec, the gooseberry nevertheless offers a host of possibilities (jams, sorbets, sauces, muffins, etc.), some varieties being more acidic; others, rather sweet. Vitamin C, potassium, iron and magnesium are some of the nutrients that make it up. So she has nothing to envy to the more popular berries!

Mouth watering? Visit your local producers and food markets to stock up on fresh berries throughout the season!
