The switch to USB-C is a painful one at Apple

The iPad 10 is here. This is the last iPad that didn’t switch to USB-C. Now all iPads are USB Type-C. But this transition is painful at Apple.

The connector USB Type-C ou USB-C is a standard created by the USB Implementers Forum and finalized in August 2014. It is a non-profit organization of which Apple is a member, but also Intel, Microsoft and HP. Since September 2021, the European Commission forces smartphone and tablet manufacturers to use a USB Type-C charging port. The decision was endorsed by the European Parliament very recently, on October 4, 2022.

In fact, the vast majority of manufacturers have already switched to USB-C… Except Apple, which has only partially done so. The iPhone will therefore, the probability is very high, be USB-C from 2023. On October 18, 2022, Apple switched the last Lightning iPad to USB-C. It is iPad 10he joins theiPad Prol’iPad Air and theiPad Mini. It was unveiled with a new iPad Pro M2 as well as a new More powerful Apple TV 4K.

10 euros for an adapter

From now on, there is therefore a good chance that all new Apple products will switch to USB-C. Thus, this transition will be painful. This is all that can be observed with the Pencil 1 compatible iPad 10. The latter is still Lightning, Apple has therefore unveiled a dedicated adapter. It costs 10 euros and it’s the only way to charge your Pencil with your new iPad.

10 euros all the same

Amazing that thousands of Apple engineers couldn’t find anything better than this accessory. You will therefore have to plug the Apple Pencil into this dongle, then plug the dongle into the iPad. This is also the only way to pair the stylus with the new iPad. Don’t worry, this adapter is included if you buy the iPad and the Pencil at the same time.

We remember that other transitions have been painful at Apple in the past. Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 in 2016, then included a dongle in the box until 2018. You had to buy a $10 adapter to use your headphones with the iPhone.
