An attendance rate of 88%: Geneva puppet theater (TMG) lived well the past season, even if certain shows intended for the greatest did not always receive the welcome they deserved. The sequel looks promising. A 2023-2024 campaign described as “varied, rich and open” by Isabelle Matter, director of the place, during a recent public presentation of the pieces to be discovered from October.
“Ubu” revisited by Neville Tranter’s Stuffed Puppet Theater.
DR
“From 1 year to adulthood, all audiences will find themselves there, through all the puppet techniques”, promises the owner of 3 rue Rodo. She’s not wrong. Highlighted by posters signed Silvia Francia, the fourteen nuggets announced intend to abolish the boundaries between the past and the present, the artistic disciplines, the living and the inert. With a highlight next spring in the form of a new concept, “2 temps 3 mouvement”, inside and outside the walls of the theatre.
Successfully programmed in 2022, “The Wild Call” after Jack London returns for a lap.
CAROLE PARODES
If in 2022-2023 the TMG had favored contemporary texts, the coming season is focusing more on big names in writing. Already programmed in 2022, Jack London returns with the excellent “The Wild Call”. Alfred Jarry sees his “Ubu” adapted by the Stuffed Puppet Theatre de Neville Tranter (it will be necessary to hurry, the spectacle remains only four days with the poster). With “Œdipe, etc.”, the Réunionnais of the Théâtre des Alberts are freely inspired by Sophocles. Finally, the Belgo-Chilean company Belova-Iacobelli revisits “The Seagull” by Chekhov through “Tchaïka”.
“Ouch!”: a jubilant co-production between the instrumentalists of the Fanfare du Loup and the puppets of the TMG.
DR
Another important component of the 2023-2024 program: music. Between the instrumentalists of the FanfareduLoup and the puppets of the TMG, the borders will disappear in “Ouch!” a “jubilant” co-production, according to Isabelle Matter. The playwright Martine Corbat calls on the Geneva singer Sophie Solo for her new creation, “The heart of the dragonflies”. Wacky instruments and yodelling permeate this poetic story of self-discovery through art, inspired by two philosophical tales by Corinna Bille.
Delphine Bouvier and Fanny Brunet in “Ultra Saucisse”.
CAROLE PARODES
Delphine Bouvier’s violin accompanies the touching and hilarious “Ultra Saucisse”, a cover of a 2021 creation on the theme of school harassment, weighed down in its time by the Covid. Live music also with Julien Israelian in “La première fois…”, a creation by Isabelle Matter adapted from a youth album by Vincent Cuvellier. Notes again on “Petitpas et moi”, a collaboration between puppeteer Chine Curchod and choreographer Teresa Rotemberg.
Presented by the Cie La Poupee qui Brûle, “Le Manipophone” celebrates French and American song with panache.
DR
Scheduled for the second half of April 2024, “2 times 3 movements” is a novelty. Three shows will be offered in parallel. “The Manipophone”, “Little gallery of decline” and “The small variations” will be played during the week in EMS, outlying schools, nurseries or foster homes. On weekends, the same shows will be given in a festive setting at the TMG.
