Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann turned down an opportunity to take over as Chelsea manager next season, with Belgian Vincent Kompany among the candidates. About it informs The Times.

Nagelsmann, who left Bayern in March, was not the main candidate for the post. It is noted that the comprehensive check conducted against him raised serious questions. As a result, the 35-year-old coach refused to continue negotiations with the leadership of the London club.

Real Madrid beat Chelsea to reach Champions League semi-finals for record time

The company has been in charge of Burnley since last summer. In April, the team secured early access to the English Premier League (EPL) from the Championship. Sources say Chelsea are impressed with Kompany’s leadership and his ability to completely transform Burnley’s style of play. However, there are concerns about his inexperience.

In addition, the former coach of PSG and Tottenham Hotspur Mauricio Pochettino and former Spain coach Luis Enrique are on the shortlist of candidates.

Chelsea took over from Graham Potter in early April until the end of the season. The London club lost all four matches led by the new coach, including both meetings against Real Madrid in the 1/4 finals of the Champions League.
