The King of Spite, Dario Gomez, He passed away at 7:31 p.m. this Tuesday at the Las América Clinic in Medellín. The 71 years of life of the popular music singer were marked by two tragedies in his family: in a firearm accident the singer killed his father, years later one of his daughters died when she was hit by a stray bullet.
“Clínica Las Américas is allowed to inform that today, July 26, 2022, Mr. Darío de Jesús Gómez Zapata entered the emergency service in a state of unconsciousness, after having suffered a sudden collapse at home”, confirmed the health center in a statement and added that the medical effort could not recover the life of the artist.
When Gómez was 24 years old, in an accident with a firearm, he accidentally killed his father. In an interview granted in 2016 to Canal Caracol, the singer said that this episode led him to want to take his own life on several occasions.
“My dad got sick. We know who gave him the curse for being his lover. (…) They gave him the curse so focused that my dad decided to kill my mom”Gomez explained. And he added, “he would arrive and when he was very angry, he would say that he had to kill her. He even said sometimes that he wanted to kill her and that he also wanted to kill her children, and finally, kill himself, ”he recounted.
Gómez then recalled that the event in which he killed his father occurred around 11:00 at night one day in 1975. His father had assaulted his mother.
“He hit my mom about five times and then he punched her on the side of her nose that knocked her to the ground. She was shedding blood. We believed that he had killed her,” Gomez recounted.
While his mother was recovering from the beating, Darío’s father took a shotgun, “pointed it at her to kill her,” he said. “I threw myself at him and grabbed his shotgun and ran out with it to throw it into the garden. But when I ran out with her I didn’t know she was mounted “, narrated.
At that point, by accident, the singer pulled the trigger and the gun went off. The bullet hit his father. “He bled out immediately. I threw the shotgun ”, pointed out the King of Spite at the time.
“I ran away. I was my father’s spoiled child, what a disgrace to have been left in my hands. I wanted to kill myself. I said but what is the way to take my life, “she continued in the interview.
His daughter Luz Dary died from a stray bullet
The followers of the deceased artist remember the lyrics of the song “Daniela”, a composition that the artist dedicated to his granddaughter, since his daughter Luz Dary Gómez -Daniela’s mother- died from a stray bullet in the middle of a gang confrontation in 2002 .
“To all my fans, who ask me about my granddaughter Daniela… This is my dear girl, whom I love with all my soul. Here I leave this song that born from a sad life story, but that now makes her a great woman and a strong person, ”wrote Darío Gómez on September 15, 2021.
The death of her son occurred on February 18, 2002. The woman was caught in the middle of a gang confrontation in a Medellín neighborhood and was hit by a stray bullet. For that year Daniela was 6 years old and Darío Gómez took on her upbringing. The young woman is now 26.
