The specter of violence hangs over the Tunisian Clasico between the African and Etoile du Sahel

On Sunday, at the “Hammadi Al-Aqrabi Brades” stadium, the “El Clasico” match will be held between Club Africain and ES Sahel, in the fifth round of the coronation stage of the Tunisian Football Premier League.

The confrontation comes less than 24 hours after the violence and riots that took place on the same stadium, during the Algerian Taraji and JS Kabylie match, in the African Champions League competitions, which left great fears in the management of the African Club of repeating these events again.

At the same time that the atmosphere was burning between the police and the Esperance fans, the African Club published an official statement calling on its fans to beware of being drawn into similar events in the team’s meeting against Etoile du Sahel.

In his statement, the African stressed, “The need to take the utmost care and caution against attempts to antagonize the atmosphere in the stands, in preparation for committing acts of violence or riots that may cause the imposition of penalties by depriving the club of its fans in the rest of the important dates.”

The statement added: “We renew the call to avoid violence, and to move away from all manifestations of chaos inside and outside the stadiums. We are keen on the safety of the country and the people, and the success of the remaining sports dates in the current season.”

In the past few days, Tunisian football witnessed the latest violence, as the Ministry of Interior announced the injury of 25 policemen, after they were attacked by the Esperance fans during the confrontation with the coastal star, which the latter took advantage of to ask the Tunisian League to punish Esperance and consider it defeated in the match.
