The Undertaker Says Peak Annual Earnings Were Just Shy of $15 Million

WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker revealed in an interview with Wrestling Inc. that his highest-earning single year in professional wrestling generated just shy of $15 million.

  • The Undertaker, born Mark Calaway, reached millionaire status at age 27 after signing with World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: TKO) at 25.
  • His peak annual earnings reached just under $15 million during his decades-long career.

The veteran performer, known outside the ring as Mark Calaway, began his professional wrestling training at age 21. Following a brief stint in WCW, he signed with the WWE at age 25.

According to Wrestling Inc., the athlete crossed the millionaire threshold at just 27 years old. For years, the star maintained strict adherence to his character and avoided behind-the-scenes discussions.

Following his official retirement, the “Phenom” began sharing details regarding the business side of professional wrestling. This shift in public engagement included the May 2020 release of his “Last Ride” documentary series.

He expanded on these behind-the-scenes disclosures with the launch of his “Six Feet Under” podcast in 2023. During a recent interview on Instagram with “The School of Hard Knocks,” he detailed the financial realities of carrying a major sports entertainment brand, as reported by Wrestling Inc.

When asked about his most lucrative twelve-month period in the industry, the Hall of Famer stated he made “just shy of $15 [million],” according to Wrestling Inc.

He emphasized that the professional wrestling business centers entirely on ticket sales and “putting a**** in seats.” In an industry that frequently adopts a “cookie cutter” format, he noted that performers must actively resonate with consumer imaginations to secure peak compensation.

Despite commanding eight-figure annual earnings at his career peak, the former champion credited his father with instilling conservative financial habits. “Always live beneath your means,” the Undertaker said during the interview, as transcribed by Wrestling Inc.

“You never know what’s in store for you tomorrow, and if it all goes away, what are you going to do?” he added.
