The union common front announces a demonstration on May 22 in Brussels

The union common front (CSC, FGTB and CGSLB) calls for a demonstration on May 22, in Brussels. The unions intend to denounce “the practices of social dumping and the severe attacks which are made on the right to strike”. By franchising its integrated stores, the Delhaize group announces, according to the union bench, “a change of economic model which risks spreading oil in other sectors”.

The dispute has its origins in the conflict arising from the announcement, in March, of the intention of the management to franchise the 128 stores of the integrated network of the lion brand in Belgium. The staff and the unions launched a strike movement to protest against this project.

“Today Delhaize, tomorrow whose turn?” ask the unions, who fear that a scenario “à la Delhaize” will spread throughout the Belgian commercial landscape.

The social dialogue is completely blocked, so much so that the management of Delhaize has, on several occasions, called on bailiffs to reopen its closed stores.

The court decisions taken by the management of the brand “put commercial law before the right of collective action, which constitutes a dangerous precedent for social movements”, still deplores the common front.

Faced with these challenges, the trade unions are calling for a demonstration on an interprofessional scale, which will be held on May 22 in the capital.

The route and time of the event will be communicated later.
