With the Omicron variant, the situation in schools, colleges and high schools is particularly complicated in Guyana. In the department, more than 50% of schools are closed and more than 1,000 teachers are unavailable, the rectorate warned on Tuesday.
“117 primary schools out of the 187 in the department are closed. There are no longer enough staff available to ensure their operation. In the second level, 17 of the 37 colleges and 7 of the 16 high schools are in the same situation. For teachers, 1,318 are absent out of 7,350, not counting administrative and technical employees. There are the positives, the contact cases, those in which a child is sick, ”detailed the rector, Alain Ayong Le Kama.
