The US rejects 97% of the applications of Venezuelan migrants

After the application of the immigration measure, a number of applications have been received and rejected for not meeting the necessary requirements.

After the publication of the new Immigration Control Process for Venezuelans by the United States, a total of 8,000 applications have been sent and only 200 met the requirements to be eligible. This represents 97% of the population that has been rejected.

The representative of the Prima Facie International Rights Foundation, Minerva Mendoza, reported this to La Prensa de Lara and clarified that citizens have rushed to apply for the program without adequate legal advice.

“The ruling occurs because many Venezuelans have dual nationality or have had permanent residence in other countries. Also because it has been detected that the sponsor is requesting two or even four people, without having the economic capacity to take charge in the United States,” said Mendoza, PHD in Human Development management.

The process for 24,000 Venezuelans to have a temporary stay permit for up to two years for humanitarian reasons, in the US has specific conditions, established on the website (www.uscis.gov/es/venezuela).

There it is indicated that a sponsor or support person, who is the one who can make the request of a Venezuelan citizen, must be a US citizen, national or legal permanent resident; you must have legal status such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or asylum; or have a temporary residence permit or be a recipient of deferred action or Deferred Forced Exit.

Additionally, you must earn the annual income established in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Poverty Guidelines for the Affidavit of Support.

For example: A person who lives in the United States and has a family of two people has to earn $22,887 a year, plus $5,900 of excess income to sponsor a Venezuelan.

“We have detected that Venezuelans are also being rejected because they want to be a sponsor, but they do not have TPS or have not been beneficiaries of an asylum, that is, they are not legal residents. This migratory process is in stages, the first occurs when the Venezuelan is given the travel permit and the authorization to enter the US, there he must present the vaccination card, pass the interview that the immigration official does and demonstrate with his responses that is effectively a beneficiary of that humanitarian parole”, he stressed.

little help

According to Alexander Campos, a migration expert, it has not been determined precisely how many Venezuelans were stranded in Central America or Mexico after the decision of the Joe Biden government to close the passage to the compatriots through the Southern Border.

But unofficial figures indicate that there may be more than 50,000 people who are currently in complete vulnerability, after crossing seven countries, including the Darien jungle.

“In the first 10 months of the year, 190,000 migrants passed through the Darién plug, of which 70% (133,000) were Venezuelans. In September, 33,000 Creoles transited through Mexico to the United States,” he stressed.
