China recently claimed that it “has sovereignty over the Taiwan Strait, and the Taiwan Strait is not an international waters,” but was refuted by the U.S. State Department. US Secretary of State Blinken also criticized China’s actions against Taiwan as undermining regional peace and stability, and reiterated that he would assist Taiwan in self-defense.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin (06.13) declared that “China has sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the Taiwan Strait.”
Recently, China unilaterally claimed that the Taiwan Strait is not an international waters, and tried to “internalize” the Taiwan Strait to deter foreign warships from sailing, but the United States did not buy it.
In response to the media, US State Department spokesman Price made it clear that the Taiwan Strait is an international waterway with freedom of navigation and overflight. The United States is concerned about China, and against Taiwan’s aggressive remarks and coercive actions, it emphasizes that it will continue to fly, sail and perform missions in the Taiwan Strait. Blinken reiterated that he will help Taiwan defend itself. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is also not afraid of China’s continued scolding and does not allow other countries to intervene in the Taiwan issue, shouting that the security of the Taiwan Strait is very important.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida mentioned, “The peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait is very important. We will continue to express to China that this should also be the common position of all countries. We think the key is to clearly convey this message.”
