A theater festival is taking place in Abtenau (Tennengau) for the 11th time. International amateur theater groups have been invited, but the Abtenauers themselves are also there and busy with the final rehearsals.
Pupils from the Abtenau youth theater group are rehearsing scenes from The Little Prince – the play is one of many that will be shown in the coming days. It is intended to build a bridge between the generations and is therefore an example of the integrative character of the theater festival.

Because at the same time, the festival founder and head of the Salzburg Amateur Theater Association has been on the road for weeks telling the story in nursing homes – in preparation for a theater experience that connects generations.
Current problems are shown
And that’s just a kind of “bridge” that the festival wants to build. Many current problems in society are addressed: The children of the Abtenau elementary school are also rehearsing a specially rewritten version of “Give peace a chance” by John Lennon for the opening on Wednesday.
International theater groups as guests
On Wednesday, the international theater groups from a total of five countries will also arrive – for example from Lithuania and Israel and the multicultural theater group “Die Fremden” from Vienna. The theater festival in Abtenau takes place every two years – a mixture of local and international productions can be seen until Sunday.
