The World Bank grants 495 million USD to Senegal

Senegal benefited on Tuesday from funding of USD 495 million from the World Bank (WB) for four projects, the monetary institution announced.

The signing of the agreements was held in Dakar between Nathan Belete, Director of WB Operations in five countries of the sub-region, including Senegal, and Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, Senegalese Minister of Finance and Budget

“The total amount of the four agreements that we have just signed reaches the record figure of 495 million dollars,” Belete said in a press release from the WB.

The first agreement for an amount of 100 million USD concerns the improvement of the performance of the education system. It will impact the study conditions of more than 600 thousand children according to the document consulted by the Anadolu Agency.

The 2nd agreement concerns the project to improve access to electricity in Senegal (Padaes) for an amount of 150 million USD from the International Development Association (IDA/WB Platform).

“More than one and a half million people will benefit directly from Padaes thanks to the connection of 200,000 households to the network,” said the WB press release, assuring that in addition 200 schools and 600 health establishments will benefit from health services. new or improved electricity with this project.

The two other agreements concern the improvement of connectivity in the northern and central production zones for an amount of 200 million USD and the economic development of Casamance (southern region) for an amount of 45 million dollars.

“These 4 projects are only the sign of a desire to find answers to questions which are at the heart of the concerns of all those responsible and for which our institution will be alongside Senegal”, noted the press release.
