The writer Petras Panavs died Culture

The writer was born on September 6, 1933. Vingiriai, Ignalina district.

He graduated from high school in Ignalina, later worked at a cultural center and served in the army. He studied part-time at Vilnius University, and in 1964 graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology.

For a long time, he taught Lithuanian language and literature, history at Cirkliškis Agricultural Technical School, Švenčioni District.

Since 1972 lived in Utena, where he worked as a teacher in primary and secondary schools, as an advisor to the district mayor.

The writer made his debut in 1973 with the collection of poems “The Silence of the Earth”. During his lifetime, he published a dozen books of poetry, as well as several books of poems for children.

Published fragments of memoirs about A. Miškinis, J. Šiožinis, P. Širvis, J. Baltušis, Č. Kudaba, E. Šimkūnaitė.

Based on the motifs of his historical drama “Daumantas”, the “Žaliaduonių” theater of the Utena cultural center staged a performance.

in 1979 he became a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union.

Mr. Panav’s works have been included in the almanacs “Poezijas pavasaris”, “Verdenė”, “Birželios sodai”, “Ziemos logi”, various poetry collections and selections.

in 2003 Mr. Panavas was awarded the Antanas Miškinis prize for the poetry collection “Ateini, praeini, nueini…”, 2004. – Miko and Kipris Petrauskas prize.

in 2011 he was awarded the Vladas Šlaits prize for his memoir “Sacrifice of Inspiration”.

in 2018 Mr. Panav was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Utena.
