There have been more Xbox Series X | S consoles sold at this point in their lifecycle than during the equivalent periods for any previous Xbox console, Microsoft has revealed.
In an interview with The New York Times, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer spoke about how difficult it is to find a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console right now. He says it’s not because the supply is lower than it has been in the past, but that the demand is so much higher.
“At this point we have sold more of this generation of Xbox, which is Xbox Series X and S, than we had any previous version of Xbox. So it’s our job to get the supply to meet that demand, ”explained Spencer.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated interest in games as more people have stayed at home. Spencer said: “The increase in use in games has come as a surprise to us. Back – what would have been – March, April 2020 – we sold consoles, which we never do. “
