Zookeeper Song Young-kwan, who takes care of the giant pandas at Everland Panda World operated by Samsung C&T Resort Division, revealed his feelings when he said goodbye to ‘Fubao’ who left for China on the 3rd.

Zookeeper Song appeared on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’, which aired on the 17th, along with fellow zookeeper Oh Seung-hee. The two people take care of the pandas in the nearest place and communicate with them. The two are called ‘Small Installments’ and ‘Song Bao’ from ‘Bao Family’ by panda fans. They are called by nicknames such as ‘aunt’ and ‘obao’.

On the morning of the 3rd, a Fubao send-off event was held at Everland in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Fu Bao left Panda World in a special vibration-free vehicle used to transport semiconductors and slowly moved to the front of the Rose Garden fountain. After the event, only zookeeper Kang Cheol-won, who had decided to accompany the car to China with a ‘big installment’, rode in the passenger seat of the vehicle, while other zookeepers remained at the scene and watched the vehicle leave.

At that time, Zookeeper Song was captured holding on to the truck that Fu Bao was riding in and leaning his head to give a final greeting. This scene was captured on an on-site broadcast camera and spread widely. His appearance brought tears to the eyes of fans watching online.

Zookeeper Song said, “It was the day of our last farewell. “It was the last moment because I was unable to go to the airport and stayed behind to take care of the remaining pandas,” he said. “I think (separation from Fubao) was emotionally very disappointing,” he recalled.

He said, “I didn’t know that would happen either, but since it was the last truck I was sending, I leaned over and said, ‘I’m sorry. I need to be here. Go well and live well. “I think I sent a greeting that said, ‘I will definitely come see you.’”

Zookeeper Oh also said about his separation from Fubao, “I think it’s a difficult feeling to explain in words. “It’s true that you have to let them go to make them happy, so it’s natural for a zookeeper to let them go, but emotionally it doesn’t work out well,” he said. “I followed him to the airport, but I didn’t realize it until he got on the plane,” he said with a laugh, adding, “I hoped that Fu Bao would adapt well, but when I saw him doing well at the airport, I was a little disappointed.”

Fubao is said to be adapting well in China. Zookeeper Song said, “I was contacted by officials, and they said that he eats bamboo shoots well and that both his bamboo intake and stool amount are normal.”
