Thessaloniki: 7 years in prison for a 26-year-old who tried to rape a student – 2024-02-29 03:08:39

7 years imprisonment the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki imposed on 26 year old Bulgarian where attempted to rape a 19-year-old student, last March, in an isolated spot and in the middle of darkness, near Gr. Lambraki Street. The judges found him guilty of attempted rape and grievous bodily harm, with no mitigating circumstances, and he was sent back to prison after his conviction.

According to the indictment, the victim strongly resisted and during the struggle that followed, she fell with the perpetrator into an adjacent ravine. As the 19-year-old received repeated blows to the head, she desperately called for help, until she finally managed to escape. She herself suffered lacerations and abrasions, while the adventure she experienced left her with mental wounds that have not healed to this day, as she testified when examined by a psychologist-expert.

“It has traumatized me psychologically, for a year now I haven’t been out even during the day. I get anxiety attacks and control the space around me. I am continuing my studies but I avoid going past the scene of the incident,” she said in her statement, which was read in court, as she did not appear in court to avoid meeting the perpetrator. “My desire not to come is linked to anxiety, stress and fear of experiencing the same situation again,” he testified characteristically.

The 26-year-old foreigner was arrested shortly after his act as the perpetrator of another incident, specifically for “sexual indecency”, which he allegedly committed earlier against another girl. He was recognized by the student and was charged, and has been in prison ever since. “It’s my fault, I was wrong. I didn’t mean to rush her, I just meant to caress her,” the 26-year-old said in his apology, saying he was under the influence of drugs
