Asunción, IP Agency.- Within 15 to 22 days, the tomato harvest will take place and will gradually impact the supply of the product in our country and prices will be reduced. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Giménez.
In that sense, he indicated “I believe that within 15 to 22 days the harvest will gradually impact the supply of our country and prices will be reduced,” said the head of the MAG.
He maintained that “the behavior of the tomato price is largely due to the lack of harvest in our country and also to the behavior in the neighboring country, since our largest supplier is usually Argentina. A phenomenon occurred there that changed the dynamics of the financial economy and also had an impact on products,” he pointed out.
Giménez reflected that “the prices of the vegetables should oscillate between 6,000 to 7,000 guaraníes per farm and would have to have reached Asunción between 10,000 and 12,000 guaraníes per kilo”.
The price will be available later
He mentioned that he observed that tomatoes are offered “on the shelves between 13,000 and 7,000 guaraníes per kilo this year; while in other points, between 7,000 and 8,000 guaraníes, which means that we can have a more affordable price later.”
He maintained that “it is a matter of coordinating with the organizations and producers that can offer and provide an opportunity so that our people can market their products in an attractive way for everyone.”
On the other hand, the Minister of Agriculture stated that the “sale of vegetables has never been easy in Paraguay, due to the issue of smuggling that generates resistance in the adoption of technology. Nobody wants to invest in vegetable production, because it is always sold at a bad price and was not attractive. Currently, that has practically been disabled. I had only one meeting and thank God that could be fought,” he added.
Producers excited by government support
At another time, the Minister of Agriculture highlighted that Paraguayan producers are enthusiastic about the good sales of their products, with the support of the National Government.
“The products were able to sell well and the Paraguayan producers are enthusiastic, they are working, convinced that this government will allow them to sell their products throughout the year,” he added.
Cover our market with national products
Likewise, he highlighted the achievement of covering our market with national products, with the support of the MAG, in coordination with other institutions.
“That is the work we have been doing, it is not easy, but we are ensuring that people can produce on a large scale and cover our market with national products. It is possible, we have productive capacity and the Ministry of Agriculture is accompanying them in that sense, in coordination with other institutions so that we can be self-sustainable,” stated the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Giménez.
