A nurse was arrested and charged this afternoon by the Justice of Córdoba for allegedly being linked to the deaths of at least five babies who were born healthy in the Hospital Neonatal between March and June, reported judicial sources.
The 27-year-old woman was charged with “repeated homicide” After being apprehended in the town of Ceballos Riverin the Sierras Chicas, about 20 kilometers from the provincial capital.
The woman is one of nine employees of the Neonatal Hospital who were removed from their positions when the situation was made public last week, according to a provision of the Provincial Ministry of Health. The arrest of the nurse came by order of the investigating prosecutor Raul Garzon. The woman had been providing services at the hospital since December 2020 and had no history of work or personal problems.
In addition, prosecutor Garzón charged three former directors of the Neonatal, one of them the former director, Liliana Asís, who are accused of mediate responsibilities, linked to their function, such as the omission of public official duties.
So far, there are five cases of deceased babies investigated by the justice system, although testimonials continue to be added daily about similar events or cases in which babies managed to survive after suffering decompensation due to similar critical conditions, and without responses from health professionals.
The judicial investigation has been going on for more than a week since the case was known. Sources linked to the investigation maintain that prosecutor Garzón continues to work on receiving evidence, and at the same time is waiting for results related to medical records, autopsy reports, and drug supplies, particularly on the dosage of potassium. The prosecutor works on various hypothetical lines, such as the alleged “malpractice” or “intentional homicide”.
