A video that recorded how two men attacked a trans woman in the Prado sector, in the center of Medellín, caused a stir this Saturday afternoon.
In the capture, the woman is seen lying on the ground, subdued by two men, while they attack her with a leash. She screams and, in parallel, a few meters away, another man tells the others: “Give him a bottle, give him a bottle!
The incident caused outrage. The Manager for Diversity in Medellín, Patricia Llano, expressed: “Given the acts of violence against a trans woman in the Prado Centro neighborhood today, from the sexual diversity management we activated the routes and the pertinent articulation of the different dependencies of the Medellin Mayor’s Office.
But he was not the only person to speak out. Susana Boreal, representative elected to the Chamber by the Historical Pact, called for forceful actions in the face of what happened.
“We expect strong action against this hate crime that happened today. How is the investigation going, Mayor Daniel Quintero? We cannot tolerate this violence against LGTBIQ+ people.”
According to local residents, the woman was not only beaten with a belt by the three men, but she would have been violated with a chain, which led her to lie on the floor.
Colonel Rolfy Mauricio Jiménez, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police, explained that the attacks were not serious. The trans woman first received protection measures and then the assistance route was activated.
“The police are carrying out the pertinent investigation to find those responsible for this fact, which we reject,” said Jiménez.
Llano, in this sense, announced that an accompaniment is being carried out by the Undersecretary of Human Rights. “We look forward to providing you with everything you need for your care.”
