The Prosecutor’s Office and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) arrested 23 people in the southern city of Arequipa, accused of being part of a gang known as “Los Gallegos.”

The group is considered a cell of the criminal organization of Venezuelan origin “Tren de Aragua”, reported the Public Ministry of Peru.

The operation was carried out by the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, which ordered a “mega-operation” to arrest “Los Gallegos.”

Those involved are accused of crimes against public faith, human trafficking, hit men, extortion and drug trafficking in Arequipa.

During the operation, 15 women who were victims of the crime of human trafficking were rescued and cell phones, firearms, laptops, money, jewelry and bank cards were seized, as well as notebooks containing the identities of the alleged victims.

The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office added that it is in the process of seizing bank accounts, to determine the total amount of money that the alleged criminal gang had.

He explained that since 2019 the alleged links of a group of Venezuelan citizens with drug trafficking were identified and they were attributed “belonging to the transnational organization ‘El Tren de Aragua’, later called ‘Los Gallegos’.”

“The alleged criminal organization would have continued with the commission of other crimes such as extortion, hitmen against foreigners and Peruvians, and the crime of human trafficking, against adults and minors,” he added.

The Public Ministry of Peru indicated that the members of the organization “would recruit older women and minors through social networks” and that, so far, the alleged criminal organization would have more than 150 members in Arequipa.

On November 11, the Prosecutor’s Office and the PNP also arrested 30 alleged members of the criminal organization “Los Gallegos del Tren de Aragua” in Lima, dedicated to human trafficking, extortion and hit men.
