The FIVB is stopping the process of changing the national team in world volleyball. The federation said on its website that it had made several changes to the rules to “increase fairness, transparency and fairness in sport”. The new regulations will come into force on September 21.

Now, in order for a foreigner to apply for a change of home federation, he will have to live in the country to which he intends to move for three, and not two consecutive years as before. However, this is the least of the players’ problems. The second limitation will be much greater, and for some even impossible to pass. Well, players who have already played in an official match of the senior national team of one country will not be able to move to another. If this rule had been in force earlier, Wilfredo Leon, who previously represented Cuba for five years, would not have played for Poland.
The fixes don’t end there. You still have to pay for the change of federation. Previously, there was a fixed rate for carrying out such an operation. Now they will be replaced by a scale system. The amount of the fee is to be influenced by the difference in the sports level of the teams between which the “transfer” takes place and the time in which it is made. It is supposed to be a kind of compensation and an equivalent for training.

Do they mean that no foreigner will be able to play for the Polish national team anymore? NO. Wilfredo Leon will still be appointed, because in his case the change of federation took place under the old conditions. The problem only applies to “new purchases”. These regulations completely closed the way to the Polish team for Wassim Ben Tara, who, although he has Polish citizenship, has already played for the Tunisian national team.
