The second public and open consultation regarding the development of the Domuyo geothermal project It took place days ago at the Varvarco Municipal Gymnasium. This is the stage of dissemination of the activities corresponding to the social and environmental studies of the initiative, which aims at use of a natural and renewable source of energy for a wide area surrounding the Domuyo volcano.
These consultations reach both local governments of the region as well as organizations non-governmental organizations, associations and the general public.
The promotion Agency for the Promotion and Development of Investments, ADI-NQN SEP, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). They seek to share with the interested parties the characteristics of the project, its current status, progress and future plans, as well as promote a space for dialogue, exchange and feedback that allows their contributions to be knownsuggestions, doubts, disagreements and comments, in the project preparation stage in order to strengthen its benefits and give it social and environmental sustainability.
In the activity that took place last Wednesday in Varvarco, representatives of the Municipalities of Varvarco, Las Ovejas, Huinganco and Chos Malal, among others, as well as other sectors and organizations of the northern Neuquino community. José Brillo, President of ADI NQN, explained that, with this new public consultation, progress is being made constructively and complying with all the required procedures.
Brillo estimated that it is likely that a third public consultation and, in this way, progress is made in the stages foreseen for the development of the project with the greatest geothermal potential in Argentina. In this regard, he explained that, although the pre-feasibility studies carried out in the 1980s by the Cooperation Agencies of Japan and Italy estimated a power of 100 MW, the intention is to advance in a pilot project, with an initial capacity of 5 MW.
