They demand justice for the death of Evelyn Farfán, Guatemalan soccer player

The young promise of Guatemalan women’s soccer disappeared on March 2, 2023.

Relatives demand justice for the death of Evelyn Alejandra Farfán Cruz, 15, a promise of women’s soccer in Guatemala, who disappeared last week from the village of San Jeronimo, in Jalpatagua, Jutiapa. The young athlete was part of the Women’s Team of the aforementioned municipality.

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, at around 3:00 p.m., the soccer player received a call and allegedly left her house to a local store. Her relatives report that hours after she received a call from Evelyn asking for her help and they did not have communication with her again, so they went to the substation of the National Civil Police (PNC) and activated the alert Dawn Keneth.

The next day, that is, Friday March 24, she was found by neighbors in the central park of the municipality. She was half-naked, with wounds and bleeding, for which she was transferred to the Cuilapa Regional Hospital “Licenciado Guillermo Fernández Llerena”, where she died in the early hours of Saturday, the 25th.

According to the family’s version, Evelyn was physically and sexually assaulted. In addition, they denounce that she was forced to ingest pills to cure corn, which caused her death. Her death was caused by possible intoxication (poisoning). Her loved ones demand justice and ask the authorities to find him or those responsible for causing the death of the young woman.

Evelyn Farfan represented Guatemala

Evelyn Alejandra Farfán Cruz, was a well-known young soccer player from Jalpatagua, a diversified college student, and is remembered for representing the National Team in the 2019 Central American and Caribbean School Sports Games (Codicader), held in the Republic of Costa Rica.

“The Jalpatagua Jutiapa women’s soccer team regrets the sensitive death of the selected soccer player: Evelyn Alejandra Farfán Cruz,” says a publication of said entity on social networks.
