They investigate the use of flares as a possible origin of the fire in Cerro Cordillera – La Discusión 2024-04-03 14:40:20

The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed that they are investigating whether a flare was the cause of the fire on Cerro Cordillera, in the Valparaíso Region.

According to the Secretary of State, no fatalities were reported from last night’s fire, but there are between 15 and 40 homes affected. She also explained that the floodlights are contained.

On Wednesday night, after heading a Disaster Risk Management Committee (Cogrid), Minister Tohá reported that “the first fire started at 8:55 p.m. on Cerro Cordillera, in the Chaparro Alto sector. Then, at 9:33 p.m. a second fire started in the Curaum sector and at 11:05 p.m. there was an additional one in the La Caldera sector.”

Asked about the launching of a flare as the person responsible for the incident in Cerro Cordillera, she stated that “we have a history, there are witnesses, but that is what the Investigative Police (PDI) has to investigate.” There are also other versions that have reached us, but they have to be investigated.”

“All of these fires are currently contained. The work that was done and the reaction in those first moments has allowed us to talk about containment,” said the head of the Interior portfolio shortly before midnight.

Finally, he mentioned that two shelters were enabled in the commune. Added to this was the sending, by the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), of support and first-need kits for those affected.
