In a ceremony aimed at highlighting the participation of women in agriculture, the National Irrigation Commission (CNR) carried out this week the symbolic delivery of bonuses from the “Special Small Agriculture Program” of the Irrigation Law to small producers in the communes. of Chillán Viejo and San Nicolás.

These bonuses, which are part of the activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, will allow them to install drip irrigation systems incorporating clean energy.

The beneficiary farmers participated in the event; the Seremi of Government, Valentina Pradenas; the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality, Constanza Sánchez; the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Arriagada; the mayor of Chillán Viejo, Jorge Del Pozo; and the regional coordinator of the CNR in Ñuble, Jorge Muñoz.

The Seremi of Government, Valentina Pradenas, highlighted that “in the month of commemoration of Women we want to highlight examples such as that of Guillermina Paredes, who has supported her family by working the land. With their effort and dedication, women enhance the agriculture of Ñuble and it is the duty of public organizations to provide them with the tools for the hard work that the field demands. The CNR’s irrigation projects are a good example of this, since they allow them to be efficient with water, have more time for themselves and save on energy costs.”

For her part, the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality, Constanza Sánchez, pointed out that “in Women’s Month we are happy as a ministry to see on the ground how they are moving forward thanks to their efforts and the help they receive from public organizations. Such is the case of Claudia Fonseca from the commune of San Nicolás, who, through the Small Agriculture Program of the Irrigation Law, today irrigates her vegetables, taking care of water and using clean energy, which has allowed her to increase her production. receive more income and improve the quality of life of your family.”

In turn, the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Arriagada, indicated that “March is Women’s Month and as the Ministry of Agriculture we are highlighting the role of rural women in agricultural activities in our region. Gender inequality is a historical problem and in the Government of President Gabriel Boric we are working to change this reality and we want to multiply more examples such as that of Guillermina Paredes from Chillán Viejo or that of Claudia Fonseca from San Nicolás, because economic autonomy is relevant to combat gender inequality.”

Small Agriculture

In Chillán Viejo and San Nicolás, 5 bonds were delivered from the Special Small Agriculture Program of the Irrigation Law, with which the installation of wells, installation of accumulators and drip irrigation systems with photovoltaic energy generation can begin.

“These are projects of up to approximately 14 million pesos and they provide a great solution to the efficient use of irrigation water with clean energy. This year we will develop two contests especially focused on women, so that in Ñuble peasant family agriculture continues to be strengthened by those who with their efforts manage to significantly improve the quality of life of their families,” said the regional coordinator of the National Commission of Irrigation, Jorge Muñoz.

For her part, one of the small farmers who benefited, María Cristina Silva, indicated that “I am very happy because today I have fulfilled a dream. This bonus will allow us to install drip irrigation with photovoltaic energy, which will translate into a great contribution to the family economy. “I invite women to dare and apply for this type of project because it will change their lives.”
