They repudiate the case of a Chilanejo who obtained a pardon despite a pornography conviction – La Discusión 2024-02-12 10:59:52

Local politicians showed complete rejection after learning of the information published a few days ago by the digital media Ex-Ante, which investigated the case of José Lagos Lagos, a 29-year-old Chilanejo, who was benefited with a grace pension from the President Gabriel Boric on February 22 of this year, being one of the “people affected in the context of the demonstrations that began in the month of October 2019.”

However, until then, what was unknown to the Government was that the beneficiary had a current sentence of seven months with intensive supervised release, for the production of child pornographic material.

Faced with the fact, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, informed the Comptroller’s Office that President Boric, upon learning of the new precedent, finally revoked the benefit to Lagos before leaving for vacation.

The UDI and the Republican Party condemned the incident, arguing that people with current criminal records cannot and should not have the right to a grace pension, due to the damage they cause to citizens.

“It is not possible that the people of the social outbreak who harmed the entire Chile, have grace pensions for the simple fact of doing harm; There are so many older adults and poor people who should really be justified with a pardon or disability pension,” said the regional president of the UDI, Isabel Troncoso.

“For us as the Republican Party, this case is completely reprehensible. A gratuity pension was given to a subject who did not deserve such a benefit; There are so many people who have gone through worse situations as a result of crime, who really should be worthy of this approval,” said the Republican helmsman, Jorge Luis Sánchez.

On the other hand, from the DC through its regional president, Paulo Campos, they considered the fact as “worrying”, emphasizing the availability of the background when considering the gratuity pension to José Lagos Lagos.

“As a Christian Democratic party we find (the case) a rather worrying and even disconcerting act. Now, the detail of this entire event lies in the availability of the background at the time of delivering said benefit; because I understand that it is not a requirement for grace pensions that the person who applied for this right has previous irreproachable conduct,” declared the DC leader of Ñuble.

Officialism

The official parties such as Comunes and Liberales were not left out either. “As liberals, we were not and do not agree with pardoning or providing benefits despite“People who committed crimes of serious social connotation, neither in the social outbreak, nor in any other context,” they reported.

“I think the president is going in the right direction by revoking this pension, since I imagine that no one in the country would be able to support this type of thing. In that sense, I consider that the government made a mistake, but it goes without saying that the president does not have to be investigating the personal lives of the victims. There were people there who provided him with this information (to revoke the benefit),” clarified the regional representative of Comunes, Vladimir Muñoz.

“They are cases and not people”

From the INDH Ñuble they reported that “the institute was instructed to accredit the status of victim, for that the regional headquarters gathered information and these were sent to the central level. Once these data were validated, a commission made up of counselors and, through an analysis and voting process, the INDH Council determined which cases would be sent to the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.

“It should be noted that they are cases and not people, because the folders arrived at the validation instance without the names of the victims visible to the council; they were only displayed with a code that allowed each case to be analyzed on its own merit. It should be noted that it has never been within the powers of the institute to accompany the accreditation with data that was unrelated to the fact. At the same time, the institute does not grant pensions of any type nor is it among its powers that these be discontinued.”
