Thirteen thousand requests in one morning for the energy bonus

The FPS Economy recorded on Monday no less than 13,000 Economy between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. of citizens who were to receive the basic energy package but had not yet received it, we learned from the office of the Minister of Energy, Tinne Van der Straeten.

Since Monday, households meeting the conditions to receive the basic energy package granted by the government in the context of rising energy prices can submit a request to the FPS Economy if they have not yet received anything.

In addition to the 13,000 requests, the FPS Economy contact center was also taken by storm: 9,000 calls and 1,200 e-mails.

The government decided last September to grant households a basic energy package for the months of November and December 2022 for gas (135 euros/month) and electricity (61 euros/month).

The premium applies to all variable contracts. For a fixed contract, the bonuses will only be granted if this contract has been concluded or renewed after September 30, 2021. The measure is not provided for beneficiaries of the social tariff. In the vast majority of cases, this basic package is paid automatically, by a reduction of the deposit invoice or by a payment from the energy supplier into the citizen’s bank account. However, the bonus may not fall automatically. This can be explained by the fact that the contact details as a customer with the supplier do not correspond to those of the national register.
