“This account does not exist”: Kevin Kühnert is offline on Twitter

“This account does not exist”
Kevin Kühnert is offline on Twitter

If you go to the SPD general secretary’s Twitter account this afternoon, you’ll see a blank page. Previously, he had received strong opposition to comments on ntv about tank deliveries to Ukraine.

SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert’s Twitter account is no longer accessible. So far, the 33-year-old has been very active on the social media platform. It is still unclear why users are now getting the message “This account does not exist” when they want to visit the profile.

Only in the morning was Kühnert visiting ntv in “Frühstart”. There he said that next winter Germany would show “that it is a strong country”.

He received strong opposition for statements about tank deliveries to Ukraine. No state has yet delivered Western tanks to the country invaded by Russia, said Kühnert. Furthermore, the statement applies “that we do not want to be gradually drawn into the war, that we do not want to encourage Russia to act completely irrationally in the end and to attack completely different states”. This is an important aspect of the debate. And this aspect must always be considered – “with all hot hearts”.

The political scientist Jan Behrends wrote about it: “Six months of war, nothing learned.” Kühnert’s appearance was also sharply criticized from other quarters and by the Ukrainian “Pravda” picked up.

In Germany, the coalition partners of the SPD kept their distance. The Green Party leader Ricarda Lang wrote on Twitter, this logic, “if we deliver more, we will provoke Russia”, ultimately only helps authoritarian regimes. FDP leader Christian Lindner tweeted, one must salute the bravery of the Ukrainians. “We must examine every day whether we can do more to assist them in this war.” Unlike Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other leading SPD politicians, Lindner added that Ukraine must win this war.
