This food habit to totally banish from your meals to live longer, according to experts

Many people have the habit of adding salt to their plate when the taste of food does not suit them. What they don’t know is that doing it shorten life expectancy. Indeed, a study has shown that people who have this habit live less long than others. We will explain everything to you.

The researchers experimented for nearly 9 years before coming to this conclusion. They conducted a study on more than 500,000 Britons and did extensive research. This research has made it possible to prove that those who are in the habit of adding salt to their plate have 28% increased risk to die prematurely.

An incredibly high figure that could be puzzling. Indeed, one might wonder how the fact ofadd salt to food would affect longevity. In fact, it has to do with sodium intake. As Dr. Lu Qi explained:

“Even a modest reduction in sodium intake, by adding less or no salt to foods at the table, is likely to result in substantial health benefits”

A habit to avoid

Thus, people who are not used to to add salt to their dish are likely to live longer than those who do. The figures collected during the research also show that men over 50 who have this mania would lose 2.28 years of life expectancy. Women, they wouldn’t lose only 1.5 years.

To improve health, it is therefore preferable to change this habit. Especially since in France, the overconsumption of salt is a major problem. Some consuming 2 to 3 times more than the recommended dose of salt per day.

Note that there is a big difference between adding salt to a dish and seasoning during cooking. If the first is bad for health, the other presents less risk. The reason is that the salt is better distributed if added to food during cooking. While on the plate, it almost does not mix, but only remains on the surface of the food.

Palm oil, bad for health

Present in many products, palm oil has a bad reputation. Nutritionists say it is bad for your health. The reason ? It contains a significant amount of fatty acids. These fatty acids found in oil are the same as those found in meat. They promote bad cholesterol. Therefore, consuming them in large quantities toxic for health.

The question then arises: should we ban palm oil from our feed ? The answer is no. The fact is that the oil contains saturated fats essential to the body. So that it does not deteriorate your health, you just have to consume it in moderate quantity.

“If palm oil is consumed with other good fats, it balances out,” also explained nutritionist Jacques Fricker to Europe 1.

Note that the butter is almost similar to palm oil. It even contains more fatty acids. Only his own are considered less problematic.

The daily palm oil consumption of a French person

In 2014, it has become mandatory to indicate the presence of palm oil in the list of ingredients of a product. This allowed the French to control their consumption.

If it has been useful, a study carried out by ANSES has revealed that in fact there is not even any reason to worry. The fatty acids contained in palm oil represent only 10% fatty acids consumed by the French. While according to ANSES, it should represent at least 12% of total energy intake.

If palm oil is known to be bad for your health, there are others that are even more so. This is notably the case of products containing hydrogenated fats.
