Just a few minutes after the end of the election, it was clear that the Salzburg municipal map, which was mostly black, had clearly visible bruises. When the ÖVP won the state election five years ago in 114 of the 119 towns, numerous communities in blue quickly flashed out on Sunday evening. There were 31 in total – including Kuchl, which was completely sealed off in 2020 due to the high number of corona infections. As the results rolled in, six red locations were added. And a dark red surprise: the unexpected success of the KPÖ in the city of Salzburg.
