Caracas.- The biggest problem of being infected with the COVID-19 not only is facing the effects of the disease individually and isolated, but, in many cases, entire families end up infected and they are left with the additional worry of not knowing what to do or how to help each other in the midst of the same virus.

In any case, it is possible to implement a plan so that, as a health care protocol, the members of a family who live under the same roof protect themselves and guarantee the prompt overcoming of the coronavirus infection. The most important thing is to prevent spread outside the affected household.

In this regard, the infectious disease doctor Julio Castro offered a series of recommendations that can serve as a guide in the aforementioned care and timely quarantine in the presence of the coronavirus.

On his Twitter account @juliocastrom, the professor of the Institute of Tropical Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela published a list of suggestions of 13 steps that can be followed. Take note of what the specialist recommends:

1. Extremely protect the weakest (elderly and small).

2. Keep the “negatives” (-), who are the people presumed not infected, with minimal contact with the “positives” (+).

3. Take turns eating.

4. Wear a mask.

5. “Negatives” (-) at home are considered contacts.

6. A negative (-) contact must have surveillance/isolation for five days from the last day of contact with someone infected. If on the fifth day the result of your COVID-19 test is negative or asymptomatic, you can return to your activities.

7. Positive (+) patients must have 10 days of isolation from the onset of symptoms.

8. Maintain regular medications in the case of particular pathologies (hypertension, diabetes, etc.).

9. Do not self-medicate. Most of the time, only simple measures are required to control symptoms.

10. “Special” patients require special measures. In these cases consult your doctor.

11. Once it is confirmed that you are a positive (+) patient, “do not repeat the test”. Use the days rule for contagious period and quarantine (isolation) days.

12. Prevent everyone from getting infected at home; someone must do “weekly.”

13. Finally, Dr. Julio Castro emphasized that “It is not a flu: it is the omicron variant of COVID-19”.
