Thousands at Amini’s grave; Police firing, arrest – Mahsa Amini

Dubai – Police opened fire on 10,000 people who gathered at the grave of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in the custody of the religious police in Iran, to mark the 40th anniversary of her death in the Kurdish town of Saqqez. Many people were arrested. Hundreds of women showed their anger by throwing off their headscarves and chanting ‘Down with dictatorship’ and ‘Freedom, freedom, freedom’. Amini memorial service was also held in other cities of Iran. Protesters clashed with the police at many places. Keeping in mind the possibility of agitation, colleges and universities were given a holiday.

After the death of Amini, who was arrested for not wearing the headscarf properly, on the 16th of last month, more than 250 people have been killed in the ongoing protests in Iran. The authorities announced that the trial of the 600 people arrested will begin this week.
