It is CLAIMED that around 100 people gathered at the Tel Aviv Street intersection. The street has now been renamed Democracy Square since mass protests against controversial judicial reforms last year.

Chanting elections now, the protesters called for Netanyahu’s resignation. They consider Netanyahu to have failed in winning the war in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, which is entering its seventh month (Palestine-Israel).

Demonstrations were also held in other cities. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid took part in Kfar Saba before his departure for talks in Washington.

“They haven’t learned anything. They haven’t changed. Until we send them home, they won’t give this country a chance to move forward,” he said at the rally.

Israeli media said clashes occurred between protesters and police at a demonstration in Tel Aviv. Police said one protester had been arrested.

Later, protesters in Tel Aviv were joined by the families of the Gaza hostages and their supporters. Earlier, the army announced that soldiers had found the body of a hostage who was kidnapped by Palestinian militants in an October 7 attack and then killed in captivity in the Gaza Strip.

The discovery of Elad Katzir’s body brings to 12 the number of hostages the army said they had brought home from Gaza during the war. Hamas attacks resulted in the deaths of 1,170 people in southern Israel, most of them civilians, according to Israeli data.

Israel’s counteroffensive against Hamas has killed at least 33,137 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled territory.

About 250 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage by militants on October 7. The army said 129 people were still being held in Gaza, including 34 people thought to be dead.

Demonstrators will take to the streets again on Sunday (7/4). Planned demonstration location in Jerusalem. (AFP/Z-2)
