[ベルリン 14日 ロイター] – German automaker Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), opens new tab, announced on the 14th that delays in thousands of vehicles held at U.S. ports without being able to clear customs will be resolved by the end of March. He predicted that this would happen.

On the same day, the British newspaper Financial Times (FT) reported that approximately 1,000 Porsche sports cars and SUVs (sports utility vehicles), hundreds of Bentleys, and thousands of Audis were shipped to China in violation of forced labor prevention laws. It was reported that customs officials seized the vehicle at a U.S. port because it contained manufactured parts.

In an emailed statement, VW said the problem was related to a small electronic component and that a replacement part was being replaced as soon as it arrived.

The FT said the problem was discovered in mid-January, but it was unclear how long deliveries would be delayed. A VW spokesperson said delays in deliveries to customers could continue until the end of March.

VW said it takes allegations of human rights abuses very seriously and may terminate its relationship with a supplier if an investigation reveals serious violations.
