Maximiliano Koba (3′), Juan Manuel Garcia (11′, 45+2′) and Panagiotis Moraitis (85′) scored the goals for Thessaly, while Ognien Ozegovic (33′), who had also missed penalty in the final.
The hosts entered the match… fierce. Before the first minute, Garcia beat Luca Capan in the air from Koba’s cross, but his header was wide of the mark. Seconds later, from a corner kick and the first clearance of the ball, it reached Yassin Amin Ashenoun. The 26-year-old Finn returned strongly and, parallel to the goal, Alexandros Anagnostopoulos made a difficult save, but the ball was laid to Koba who made no mistake from the height of the penalty for 1-0.
The players of Costa Braço, who returned as opponents in the capital of Magnesia, tried to react, but Mateus Santos Barbosa’s shot from inside the area in the 8th minute was blocked with a double effort by Daniel Kovacs. Three minutes later, Volos found the back of the net again: Nemanja Glavcic’s cross, Garcia jumped higher than Morgan Schneiderlen and with a header left Anagnostopoulos with no room to react for 2-0.
Kifissia did not give up the match. On the contrary, he arrived with Ozegovic – also ex-Volos – to reduce the score, after a nice collaboration between Jonathan Menendez and Barbosa in the counterattack. Afterwards, the Northern Suburbs team threatened to equalize, but Kovacs impressively blocked Ozegovic’s very strong shot in the 41st minute and two minutes after Sneijderlen’s attempt.
And since 2-2 didn’t happen, 3-1 came. In stoppage time in the first half, Koba found Antonio Luna on the left, he turned the ball and with a place in the movement Garcia scored his second personal goal.
With the changes he made at the beginning of the second part, Bratsos tried to change the image of the match. In vain, however… Just as in the 68th minute, Volos came close to a fourth goal, but Anagnostopoulos had a hard time pushing away Christos Sielis’ nailed header.
Something that finally happened in the 85th minute, when after a corner kick, Asechnoun laid on Moraitis – who had replaced Garcia a little earlier – who beat Anagnostopoulos for 4-1. Three minutes later, Ozegovic was brought down by Aleksandros Kalogeropoulos in the box, but Kovacs stood his ground and saved the 30-year-old Serb’s penalty, keeping the scoreline intact.
The only black spot in the “three points” of Volos was the expulsion of Zoeri Da Camps in the delays, but little harm for the team of Christos Conti, who “breathed” in terms of scores and “drown”, at the same time, Kifissia into uncertainty and anxiety of the stay.
