The Federal Energy Mediation Service received a total of 26,920 complaints in 2022, almost 300% more than in 2021, which had already been a record year with 9,088 complaints, he said in a statement on Thursday.

In total, 78.9% of complaints came from the Dutch-speaking part of the country, 21% from the French-speaking part and 0.1% from the German-speaking part.

In these cases, the plaintiff obtained complete satisfaction from the energy supplier. The favorable follow-up given to closed cases resulted in a total amount of 255,445 euros in compensation or financial reparations, i.e. an average of 99 euros per admissible complaint closed in 2022.

In all, the Mediation Service issued 61 recommendations to energy suppliers, of which only 19 were followed.
